Major Jeff Van Etten

Maj. Jeff Van Etten joined CAP in Feb 2002. He has a private, instrument, single-engine-land pilot’s license (600 hours PIC, 825 hours total) and his primary interest was in flying. He pursued emergency services training as a Mission Scanner, Mission Observer, and Mission Pilot and then branched out into Mission Base training, achieving Air Operations Branch Director before starting on ground ratings. He has completed Urban Direction Finding and is starting on Ground Team Member 3.

His Squadron duties included Operations Officer (responsible for keeping the aircraft in good flying condition and monthly reporting), then Deputy Commander for Seniors, and currently Squadron Commander.

“My primary emphasis as Commander is helping Squadron members get as much out of CAP as they can, whether that involves Emergency Services training or Cadet Programs. Everyone joins for their own reasons, so my job is to understand those reasons and help them succeed, while promoting the type of training that furthers the mission of CAP and fulfils our responsibilities as an Emergency Services Program. I am most impressed with the quality of our cadets and the seniors who run the cadet program. I believe the cadets are capable of achieving great things and I look forward to helping them achieve their goals.”

Maj. Van Etten encourages open communication and can be reached by all members of the Squadron and parents of cadets by email  jeffvanetten@yahoo.com, or by phone; work 703-808-1200 (leave a message if you don’t find him), or at home 703-771-0404 (where leaving a message may be less reliable).
